Blueberries and Crystal

Yesterday was a beautiful afternoon to do some blueberry picking.

 On Thursday, Cole and I had gone blueberry picking. Wayne had a friend over so he didn't come, and Heather also wanted to stay and play with Wayne and his friend. Cole would not allow me to take any pictures of him blueberry picking, but the next day, I took Wayne and Heather. They let me take a few.

 I think the season is just beginning here, because there were still lots and lots of unripe berries.

 We each filled one of these baskets.

 Afer picking blueberries, it's on to Crystal Lake to meet Julie, Estelle, and Lena. The girl in the yellow suit is Heather's friend Kiera. Her grandparents own the blueberry farm. She was spending the day with them while her mom was at work, so we invited her to come to the lake with us. Luckily, she had her suit!

 Lena, the animal lover, tries to become friendly with the duck family.

Friends, cousins, berries, sand, water. All the best things of summer in one day.

Student Composer Video Interviews

I don't know how long this has been on the Music-Comp website, but I just discovered it while poking around for any new information about upcoming events.

These are from interviews taped at the last Opus event back in April.

How are real musicians different from computer playback? Thoughts from student composers, including Wayne.

Glover Day 2015

Wayne ran the 5k, came in 3rd place with a time of 23 min.

 Cole also ran the 5 k, came in 3 minutes behind Wayne, 5th place.

If you don't tie your shoes on a daily basis, then there is certainly no reason to tie them just to run a 5K.

 Meanwhile, Grant enjoyed the music of Bread and Puppet.

 I completely missed the kids race and all of the other finishers due to supervising the 8th grade Bouncy House and the Duck Race sales.  Wayne's class is already raising money for their class trip, even though a destination has not been decided.

Hiking

On Thursday, Heather and I hiked Mt. Pisgah.

There are lots of boulders along the trail, which are more fun to climb than the mountain itself.

We hiked to Pulpit Rock and stopped for a lunch break.

Heather decided that was enough of a hike so we did not go all the way to the top.

As is our tradition, we stopped for ice cream at the Westmore store.

Then Heather took a dip in Lake Willoughby. She said the water was very cold.

I'm so lucky to have such a delightfully sweet daughter to spend time with!

Happy 4th of July, and Other Things

Heather, Estelle, and Lena spend Friday afternoon making 4th of July tie dye t-shirts and having some face painting. 

On Saturday, the 4th, Wayne and I take a bike ride on back roads and plan it so that we meet up with everyone at the parade in Barton at 2:00

The "red," white, and blue tie dye t-shirts turned out more like pink, white, and blue, but it was still fun.  I was pleased that Wayne and Cole were really interested in making them as well.

Best Cousins Forever

Joanie, Julie, Estelle, Lena, Heather, and I walked the 5k, while Cole chose to run it. He's at the left of this group.  (Wes and Wayne were participating in the bottle drive to raise money for the 8th grade class trip. They don't know where they're going yet, but the fundraising  starts early.)
