Every year, Mrs Tester, the third grade teacher, does a big unit on the Little House series. On Thursday, the class will put on a museum exhibit. Students are encouraged to bring in items that might be from the 1800s. They have to be very knowledgeable about their items and may even dress the part. Mrs. Tester can provide a few costume items, but (below) Heather tries on a dress from Mary (or Martha? We've had it for several years just waiting for the right moment) and displays a sad iron borrowed from Joanie.
Heather is a lucky girl to have such helpful and creative aunts!

She looks just like she could have been on the show Little House on the Prairie! Mom and I are planning on taking in the museum today. Not only would Darlene we love to know the story on the dress, we would love to know the story on the iron! All I know about it is that it was at Steeplebush, and it was always over on the bookcases in the livingroom, acting as a bookend. But I have no idea where we acquired it--abandoned house? auction? family heirloom?--Joanie
ReplyDeleteOh, my goodness! Heather looks just like Laura Ingalls Wilder, bare feet and all!
ReplyDeleteCan't answer any of the questions on the dress or the iron, unfortunately.
So glad that Grammie and Joan will get to go to see her at the "museum" today!
Heather is perfect playing Laura Ingalls!! So cute!! Love her costume! It isn't one of mine, so perhaps came from Mary as I remember she used to have prairie dresses @ Hiawatha? Do remember the iron @ Steeplebush but don't know where it came from.

ReplyDeleteYes, the dress came from a teacher friend of mine who had sewn it for her daughter. When she retired, she gave it to me and of course Rachel was too big for it, so did give it to Heather. How cool that she could use it. I am printing the picture and sending it along to her!
ReplyDeleteNeat, Mary!
ReplyDeleteBravo Heather! You make an authentic prairie girl! Maybe Daddy got the iron from one of his abandoned house hunts?? (Aunt Laura)
