July 4th

I finally remembered to post photos of our 4th of July!

The girls decided to decorate bikes this year and ride in the Barton parade. The preparations began a day or so prior with some intense decorating in Joanie's garage.

Here's  Heather just before we head out for the parade. We had done some patriotic face painting.
At the parade, Heather, Estelle, and Lena were joined by Heather's friends.  On the far right is Kelby, Heather's classmate. Standing next to Kelby is her sister,  Dayna.  She is 11 and the three of them are softball teammates. The little girl in front with the cowboy boots and horse is their younger sister, Rylee, who will be going into 1st grade this fall.

It was quite a hot, sunny day, but all the girls did great. They each had candy to throw to the crowd.  We tried very hard to save some for Wayne and Cole who were watching near the end of the route with Wes, Joanie, and Grammie.
Afterwards, resting in a shady spot on someone's lawn.
Later there was a quick dip in the lake and a barbecue at Joanie's. Wayne made his signature chocolate covered strawberries.
The decorated bikes rest after a good day's work.
The girls get out their cardboard structures and play until dark.

Hope everyone had a great July 4th.

  1. The girls all looked great in their patriotic face paint, clothes, and bicycles. I am sure that the spectators really enjoyed seeing them ride by!
Love how the cardboard house, outhouse, car, and who knows what else resurrect themselves each summer!

  2. Love that parting shot of the cardboard outhouse! Julie told me that the girls asked if they could really use that bucket, but she told them definitely NO! I wish we had got some photos of you and Julie accompanying the bikers on their long parade route. The girls were all so colorful--it was a beautiful display of patriotism and youth!!
