Kindergarten Graduation

Mrs. Dudley has officially promoted her little class of 7 students to first grade. There was just too much cuteness going on for me to narrow down the pictures, so there's lots to see.

During the Kindergarten Graduation ceremony, it was difficult for the kids to keep from sliding out of their chairs while wearing their slippery caps and gowns. Not to mention how distracting these tassles can be.

The kids sang a couple of songs. For your entertainment, here is a torturously sweet rendition of "This Little Light of Mine."

Mrs. Dudley gives an award to each student. You can see that Zephyr, sitting next to Cole, won the "Young Writer's Award." Mrs. Dudley describes the students achievements without naming them until the very end. In the picture below, Cole giggles with Zephyr as he begins to realize she is now talking about him - his sense of humor, his April Fool's birthday, his stories and songs he made on the computer (she actually sang a few lines of one of his songs and the audience applauded). She described him as being a math wiz and the official time keeper of the class, before announcing, "My creativity award goes to Cole J------ A--------.

Then he is awarded his Kindergarten Diploma.

A couple of the Moms secretly organized the students to make this name plaque for over her classroom door.

Back at the ranch, the barbecue and fun begin. Erica and Kolby on the playground.

All of us Moms had secretly gotten together to make the kids these name plaques, similar to the one Mrs. Dudley had been given.

The adults sat down to eat, but most of the kids were too busy playing.

We made tie dye t-shirts. Messy but fun.

Then it's Cole's favorite time - time for cake. Alayni's mom, Nancy made this. It was chocolaty and moist and creamy...

Runaway Pond 200th Anniversary Celebration

The Runaway Pond Bicentennial, planned by the Glover Historical Society, was a 3 day event. Each day was packed with events, and we have Dan, Chris, and Cedric to thank for many of these photos. Below, a play put on by the 6th graders at Glover School on Friday afternoon. It was called "Graveyard Ghosts."

Saturday started off with the race. I was at Wayne's baseball game, so unfortunately no photos of Matt finishing first. Congratulations Matt. Then, the children's parade:

Church dinner Saturday night. Delicious italian food! After this, we all went over to the school for another student play. Wayne took pictures that I was planning to upload, but I can't find his camera.
Sunday at Runaway Pond Park, a rain soaked day, but no one seemed to mind. Wayne, Cole, and Heather investigate the new water wheel.

Later, Joanie reads off the name of the ditch diggers from 1810.

Then, the moment Wayne has been waiting for: the results of the pie and cake contest. He really, really wanted to win and when he heard Gov. Douglas read his name for the first prize he started jumping up and down.

Lisa won first prize for the cakes. She modestly told the crowd, "I bought one of these cutting boards yesterday because I didn't think I would win."

Cole was very upset that he did not win anything.

Heather doesn't like anyone but me taking her picture, and Cole is obviously devastated by his defeat. Luckily, Aunt Lisa pulls him through by giving him her extra cutting board.

Joanie and the rest of the Glover Historical Society deserve a huge congratulations on their accomplishment. The entire weekend was a wonderful success - lots of fun and educational. There were so many events that I didn't get to attend so please all you, leave your comments to help fill in my gaps. It'll be fun to hear.

End of the Year Field Trip

The Kindergarten, first, and second grade kids took a field trip to Sugar Ridge Campground on Friday.  It's a beautiful spot.  Upon arrival, the kids were greeted by this bear handing out lollipops. These are the kindergarten kids.

The first thing the K students did was take a little nature walk on some of the campgrounds many trails. They discovered  this water spicket which was just about as much fun for them as anything.

It was a fun day and the kids came home to even more fun because Grammie, Aunt Lisa and Uncle Dan are here for the the Runaway Pond Bicentennial  events.  That's a whole 'nother blog post.
