Gingerbread House

Christmas is all over the place around here.

In honor of the season, we attempt a gingerbread house. Two years ago, Wayne, Cole, and Joanie made one and entered it in the annual contest sponsored by the Glover library. If ours is done by Friday, and if it's halfway respectable, maybe we'll enter this year, too.

Wayne combines the ingredients.
Mixes 'em up.

And uses the template we made from cardboard to cut the dough. Heather hates to be left out.

While Wayne was cutting out the house pieces, Cole cut out some gingerbread people, snowmen, and trees.

Cole discovered, with disappointment, that construction gingerbread dough is not as sweet and tasty as regular gingerbread dough.

Here are some of the pieces, ready to go into the oven.

Stay tuned for the next step: constructing and decorating.

By the way, Bing sends his regards to Grammie.

  1. So glad to see that Bing is around to be part of the Gingerbread Construction. The pieces looked so carefully cut that I am sure it will be worthy of entering in the contest!

I didn't know that construction gingerbread was different from the usual gingerbread.

  2. So glad to see the process developing to bring Christmas aong. I found photos of
the Wayne-Joannie Christmas house and plan to put them onthe Art wall in the Kitchen!! We'll be looking for this year's
version soon. Seeing the three children clearly enjoying their artistic endeavors is great. Even Heather always seems to
enjoy her first time sharing her brothers' holiday art work.
Love to everyone from Gramma and Grampa

  5. Darlene, I just squealed and cackled out loud in my bed to see that Bing is alive and well. Do you remember the year I kept putting him in places like Mom's bed, Mom's shower, the fridge, the washer? That was very funny.
I made a gingerbread house years ago - baked it at Joan's and then Dad worked on it with me to make the smoke wisps coming out of the chimney look real. I made the chimney out of caramels. Dad ate the entire rest of the bag.
