With no snow on the ground, it's hard to get into the Christmas spirit, but we're getting there. I've got my shopping all done. (I can't speak for Wes.) The kids are getting excited. Heather's counting the moments until her birthday and her birthday party which is going to be Tuesday after school. We got a humongous tree which takes up two thirds of the living room and smells like a tom cat. We've made gingerbread cookies. It's even been snowing a little bit off and on today. We're getting there.
When I was in high school, I was in the school chorus. We were pretty good. We were in many competitions around the state of Maine and won a lot of awards. Not everyone appreciated our talent. One Christmas we visited nursing homes to sing carols. In the middle of an a capella version of Silent Night with 4 part harmony, one outspoken elderly resident crabbed, "This is terrible! I never heard anything like this! I don't have to sit here and listen to this!" and she spun her wheel chair toward the door and rolled herself away. You might feel like you don't need to sit here and watch these videos, and I wouldn't blame you, but for the die-hard aunts and grandparents among you, what would the Christmas season be without a middle school band performance of "We Wish You a Merry Christmas"? (Wayne is in there somewhere.)
And then there's this. Wayne and Cole were playing around in the basement - Wayne playing piano and Cole singing. Cole was being goofy and silly, but he actually sounded pretty good. Then when I came around with my camera and tried to get them to recreate the performance, he clammed up. You can't hear him, but at least you can hear Wayne playing the piano. He learned this a couple of years ago.

First of all, I didn't even know that Wayne played trumpet and was in the band! Wow! I am very impressed! Plus, he looked very handsome in this dress shirt and tie!
ReplyDeleteCole DOES have a nice voice and Wayne is very good at piano playing! A very musical family!
Hope the weather holds for Heather's party tomorrow! Is this her first party with friends attending?
We have a two hour delay here today, but I hear you have no school!
Perhaps W,C, & H can entertain themselves by playing the "Ornament Game"!
Hi Lisa. This is Wayne's 2nd year playing the trumpet.
DeleteThis is Heather's first "friends birthday party." She has invited the 8 girls in her class. Cole was sick with a tummy bug in the night, I'm just praying that Heather doesn't get it and we have to cancel her party.
I was just about to call for a sub to stay home with Cole today when the call came in that there was no school!
P.S. The "Ornament Game" is only fun with Joanie.
DeleteHope Cole gets better!
ReplyDeleteJoanie DOES make everything more fun, doesn't she!
Loved it all!!! The band performers seemed to be frowning in concentration!! (But not Wayne.) That was Maria (Michelle's dau.) I am sure in the front row, just to the left of where you see Wayne.
ReplyDeleteDarlene, loved your high school chorus story!!!!

Plus wanted to add that Sunday when I was over Sleighride was playing on the radio, the instrumental version, and I said let's listen for the end and see if they play the instrument so it sound like a horse neighing, but this version did not have it...but Wayne went and got his trumpet and did it...he said they did that neighing version at the concert, but the older trumpet players got to do that effect. It was so cool that he could do it!!

OK, this is the first, that I have heard, that Darlene was in a choir. You have been holding out on us, Darlene!! I now expect you to sing "Christmas Is" when we gather around the piano! I am so impressed with Wayne's piano playing and his comfort on the trumpet! Looked like he knew exactly what he was doing, and I thought the band played very well! Love that Heather had her girlfriends over to celebrate! All have beautiful names! We had no snow days off, but the ground was dusted with snow today! Hope Cole is feeling better, and everyone well for Heather's b day today!! Love, Mart
ReplyDeleteI haven't even watched the videos yet but just want to chime in that I too feel like I have been kept in the dark for 20 years re: Darlene and her former choir stardom. How dare you hold out on us! Wayne's playing trumpet? The godmother's always the last to know.
ReplyDeleteDon't be too impressed with ME! I was probably the reason the lady got so mad and left the room!
