The Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium

For Christmas, Joanie had given us gift certificates to Pizza Hut and the Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium in St. Johnsbury. So yesterday we had a little family outing for the afternoon.

The museum opens at 1:00 on Sunday, so we went to Pizza Hut first for lunch. We go out to eat so rarely, that this alone was an adventure for the kids. We finished lunch just in time to head over to the museum.

You are not allowed to use a camera flash in most parts of the museum, so these photos are not the best, but you'll get the gist of it.
There are lots and lots of animals on display on the ground floor.

There was an exhibit called "Sound Waves" where kids could play these interesting musical machines.

This replica of a triceratops skull was the highlight of the day for the boys.
On the basement floor is the weather station and a few interactive activities for kids which demonstrated the principles of meteorology. This machine has something to do with air pressure
After exploring the museum it was time to go into the planetarium. It turns out that the guy running the planetarium show that day was also at Sylvia's house in West Glover watching the fireworks. During his "talk" he even commented on the way the clouds parted just enough for the moon to be visible with the fireworks.
Heather was a little restless in the planetarium. Luckily, it was just all of us and two other people, so we weren't disturbing a whole crowd. She eventually settled down in my lap and fell asleep. Cole was very good and said he liked seeing the moon move. Wayne said he loved the museum and especially the planetarium.
Thank you Joanie.

  1. So glad you had such a nice family outing! What a nice gift from Jo Jo. With children that love science so, I bet they were in seventh heaven at the museum and planetarium. Fun to see pics of them enjoying their time there.
