Those baby chicks sure are cute! They do perish pretty easily when they are so tiny - we lost 2 within the first couple days of getting them - but the survivors are huge now! I'm glad she got a replacement. :)
Lisa, sadly none of the chicks in Wayne's classroom hatched - not a single one. Mrs. Tester said this is the first time in her 35 years of doing this project that this has happened. Wes got the chick from the same farm that he ordered the others from. Wayne took the chicks to school for his class to see ( I was a little worried that they might not survive the turmoil, but they were ok.) Cole got to bring them into his classroom at the end of the day. The chicks are very popular. Mrs. Tester says that Heather's little chick looks like a bantam, a smaller variety.
What is the life expectancy of a full grown chicken anyway?? When I taught first grade(1 yr) we hatched chicks and had pretty good luck, after the kids would leave each afternoon, I removed any chicks that didn't make it. Didn't enjoy that part!

ReplyDeleteSo glad that Heather was able to get another chick. Am assuming it came from Wayne's classroom?
