Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day weekend: Heather had a softball game on Saturday morning. Her team is a nice group of girls ages 6-8, and they are all quite good softball players.
Heather got a good hit each time she was up and never struck out.
In the afternoon, the kids and I went for a hike. We had planned to hike the short and friendly Haystack, but arrived to find signs saying that the trail was closed due to mud. So we chose the nearby Bald Mountain trail. It's a much longer, so we only did part of it. Wayne, Cole, and Heather were going fishing with Wes after the hike.

Moose tracks.

Wayne discovered moose droppings. Of course they had to poke at it with a stick.
We saw lots of little wild flowers. I have no idea what any of these are.

This one is trillium I think.

We stopped for our traditional after hike ice cream.

Monday morning Wayne marched with the middle school band in the Memorial Day parade.

After the parade there was a ceremony, remembering and honoring fallen soldiers. This man is throwing a bouquet of flowers in the river to symbolize soldiers who are gone but not forgotten.

Later, there were flowers at the cemetery and Wayne had a baseball game in turbulent weather.

The long weekend made us look forward to vacation. The countdown begins. My last day at preschool is the 4th. Everyone else is the 13th.

Love that you and the kids go hiking and that Wesley brings them fishing! Would've liked to see Wayne in the parade. Always emotional to see the veterans and hear taps!! 2. That is one busy weekend--good thing there were three days! Couldn't believe all the blossoms and flowers you saw. I think the common name of the first one might be spring beauty? Loved all the pics of Heather at bat and Wayne marching and all hiking!!
Glad I was able to fill out your weekend with another activity--picking me up at the garage!!

  3. I hope we can see some games this summer of any of your kids playing. That would be so fun for Estelle & Lena. We, too, cannot wait to come home for the summer. A woman at Estelle's school, who is originally from another part of France, said to me "What are your summer plans?" And I said "Je rentre." Which means I'm going back - the understanding in French is wherever you are, if you say "je rentre" is means that where you are now is not your home base. She laughed and said "I still say the same thing when I return to Alsace - je rentre". Your kids are having a great childhood. We can't wait to share part of it this summer. We are so lucky you don't go away during the summer or we wouldn't be able to see so much of you!

  4. What a full weekend you all had!

Heather looks so professional in her "crouched and ready" position on the ball field.

Loved the wildflowers and moose signs you found on your hike!

Wayne looks like he fits right in with the rest of the Middle Schoolers in the marching band!

You are almost done school! Hooray! They go to the 20th here and that is with them adding 30 minutes to each day since May 1st due to snow days!
