I held onto her babyhood as long as I could, but now that she's about to turn 3, she's reached a couple more milestones. For one thing, she's given up her naptime. After many nights of her being awake in her room until 9:30 or so, getting out of her bed to play with her dolls or sneaking into Wayne and Cole's room to see what they were up to when they all should have been sleeping, I decided It must be time to let go of the nap. It was not easy (for me) but now she goes to sleep as soon as her head hits the pillow in the evening.
For another thing, not only can she give herself a haircut, but she can also get dressed (almost) all by herself. See how proud she looks. You can't really tell from the picture, but she has two shirts on, and one of them is on backwards with the tag sticking up. She doesn't seem to mind. When she looked at her outfit in the mirror, she said, "It's perfect." She wasn't a baby for very long.
The kindergarten class took another field trip to a Catamount Arts performance of Hansel and Gretel, by the National Marrionette Theatre.
This was a gentler version than the original, while still holding somewhat true to the story. Their real mother lets them go into the forest to find berries (rather than a stepmother abandoning them in the woods.)

I know what you mean about our little ones losing their babyhood. But I am NOT prepared for Elijah to ever give up his nap. What a glorious 2-hours that I can actually:
ReplyDeleteA)Get something done around the house, or
B)Take a nap myself (I still need one, and I sleep fine at night!)
I actually think Heather looks so cute with that haircut. I can't believe she's going to be 3 at the end of the month...maybe it's time for you to have "just one more."
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Haha. Ahem, ha.....
Just kidding.
Heather looks so tall in her picture where she had dressed herself. I agree that her hair cut is very cute on her!
ReplyDeleteI am sure that you miss that nap of hers but am glad that she is going to bed better at night.
Hope Cole feels better soon!
I had to print up Heather's picture to show our secretary how cute this very tall pixie is!! My kids were poor nappers and sleepers from the start, but I feel your pain!! I can't believe all the opportunities your kids get, in such a small school. That puppet show looks incredible! I hope Heather got to tag along on that trip!!
ReplyDeleteToday at 5:35 when Lena woke up I thought "Maybe I should cut out her morning nap!"
ReplyDeleteThat Marionnete show looks amazing. I wish Estelle was getting the same kind of attention your kids get - she is in a class of 26. It stinks.
Heather looks like a different kid! So tall! I recognize that Xmas dress of Estelle's!
Love her new haircut! I agree with Sandy, what's one or two more, maybe twins..just ask Grammie!
